Support the Mock Mayor and Governor’s elections on Pine Island
To the editor:
As a Past President and recipient of the Lion Club Melvin Jones award I agree 100 percent with the letter submitted by Deb Cole concerning the mock elections. If you have never been a part of an organization that relies on their fund raisers you may not understand. The city that I lived in was much larger than Pine Island. If we could have raised the amount of funds to help others in one attempt I would have been thrilled. We sold Christmas trees and the members went up to tree farms in order to cut down and bring back the trees. We held casino nights throughout the year along with other smaller fund raising functions. We relied on our members, other organizations like the Chamber of Commerce, Innkeepers Association to donate banquets rooms for our casino night and the community in general.
It would be wonderful if all the organizations and clubs would send letters to the Lions Club in support of the mock elections. We have lived here for 15 years and we have always donated to the auctions and would like to have the opportunity to support and donate again.
Sincerely,
Joseph Loibl
