More on Dollar General

To the editor:

Why do we have code enforcement in our area if they will not or do not do their jobs? They need to spend more time on the job and less on the golf course. There are too many people out there that need and want jobs and that will do a good job and do it right. Lee county commissioners were asked by Mr. Phil Buchanan to put a emergency stop order on the Dollar General store because it was not conforming to its original blueprint and they added things they thought would look nice (and that did not work.) But they are still going ahead with their plans of what they want and basically telling the commissioners and the residents of Pine Island they will do what ever they want. If any one has seen the prints of what the building is to look like and what it looks like now they would know and see what I am talking about. It looks nothing like what they agreed to. The hideous looking sign out by the street was not even approved, yet they put it there. I just do not understand why some one in the Lee County commissioners can not or will not speak up and make businesses do what they agreed to. No, they pick on the home owners and the real small businesses because they know they can make them do what they are suppose to.

Just think if this was your business starting up and you did what Dollar General did, how far do you think you would have gotten? So what if it makes them mad or it cost them too much to redo, sorry about their bad luck, if they would have done it right the first place they would not have to redo it. If plans were changed then why wasn’t it brought to a meeting to see what the residents wanted or liked? It is a eye sore as it is let alone letting them make it worse. Planting all the trees in the world is not going to help. They were let on to this Island under the agreement of they doing what was agreed to by them and the commissioners and the residents of Pine Island and all they have done it snub their noses at us. It is very disheartening and sickening to see this happen.

I know it would be to much to ask, but they should be told to pack their bags and leave and if any one wants to shop their store go to the one on Pine Island Road.
