The Beacon of HOPE today
To the editor:
Each time I read about anything in the Eagle about the Beacon of HOPE, it has always been about the way it use to be.
So, I am writing to the readers about how the Beacon of HOPE is now. When you say the Beacon of HOPE that is exactly what it is.
I went to the Beacon of HOPE to apply for help after running into and times a few years ago. When I left, I did have hope and I new that Gad had opened doors for me to be able to get the help I needed during these hard times. I also thanked God for the ones who were able to do the paper work that needed to be done, but there was times when I walked in and felt intimidated and times you didn’t know what mood everyone was going to be in. Sometimes you even felt like you were a burden. As a client, you are already dealing with the stress of your own personal problems. So, you didn’t need to feel like you were a burden. But, don’t get me wrong, the paper work did get done, so I was able to get the help that I needed and thank you.
But, the point I am making now is that when you go to the Beacon of HOPE now, you always feel welcomed. There has been times when I walked in and there was standing room only, but when your name was called you were always greeted with a smile and told to come on back.
I know it has been a big change at the Beacon of HOPE, but a good one. I know for a fact that the new director has spent long hours after 5 p.m. in the afternoon because I was one of the clients that she spent that time with doing the paper work that needed to be done instead of telling me to come back tomorrow, like I was told before. Yes, some of you may say that’s because she doesn’t have life, but she does. She is very involved in her church and with the community of Pine Island.
So, we as people of the island, need to thank the ones at the Beacon of HOPE for going that extra mile to help the ones who are in need at this time.
Thanks so much Patty, your doing a great jo. SO keep it up and thanks to all the volunteers who are helping too.
Thanks from a client wit HOPE.
