Keep your pets leashed
To the editor:
Last week, two pit bulls were found dead in Bokeelia. They had been placed vertically nose to nose alongside Stringfellow Road. The Sheriff’s office determined they had ingested poison but it is not known if this was maliciously and cruelly deliberate or if they might have gotten into some pesticides at one of the agricultural sites.
“The ‘leash law’ and/or keeping dogs within verbal control is always the best policy all around,” said Sheriff Mike Scott after the incident. “Once they get out and are allowed to roam on their own, not much good can ever come of it.”
Please keep your pets leashed, fenced in or under your command. Our agriculture community should be sure potentially lethal materials are secured.
If you have any information which may shed light on the deaths of these dogs, please contact Capt. Richard Dobson at the Sheriff’s island substation, 239-282-5766.
