It’s not about our president
To the editor:
I truly don’t understand the phenomenon of Obama hating. Is it a product of the Internet where folks can freely express their deepest feelings and read what others’ write? Obviously, the facts have nothing to do with it. In a “Letters” section, post the writer blames the current escalating price of gasoline on, you guessed it, President Obama. He says the president has put in place a needless moratorium on oil drilling in the Gulf. Well, yes, there was a moratorium in the Gulf (lifted, by the way, in October) which was enacted for good reason to ensure that best drilling practices and laws were being followed after the BP explosion. Kind of makes sense, don’t you think? Sounds like simple good leadership so bad things like oil spill disasters don’t repeat. The fact is the current escalation of prices happens on a continuous basis and other factors besides the puny overall oil output of the gulf (vs. areas such as the middle east) have far greater impact. What the oil experts say is there’s greater gasoline demand (from an exploding middle class in China and India who are purchasing cars) and a U.S. dollar that doesn’t buy as much and has less value on the international market. It’s not about our president. It usually isn’t.
