New restaurant in Bokeelia

To the editor:

Recently, we had a most pleasant surprise at a newly re-opened restaurant in bokeelia. The Bokeelia Cracker Cafe on Stringfellow Road now serves Mexican food. Wonderful idea and when a group of us went in to try it out, we were well rewarded.

For one, the food was excellent. I am wild about their black beans. The guacamole was fresh, hand-made and delish, served with warm tortilla chips. The tamales, yes, tamales are very tasty. Whatever they do to their pork and chicken, I want the recipe. The chicken burrito, tortilla soup and enchiladas all received high marks for quality and value. And, what a value, most, if not all, of the items were under $10. In this economy, this is a huge plus. Tacos are great, too, and under $2, how can you beat that?

As we noted last year, the restaurant is very welcoming and clean. I’m a bit of a fanatic about clean bathrooms and kitchens and they receive an ‘A’ in my book.

It really is nice to have a place we can go out locally that serves excellent Mexican fare. I’ve always wondered why someone didn’t think of this sooner. It’s healthy, good to eat. It also was nice to see how much they enjoy cooking. I even got a few cooking tips. The young female chef and the owners were delighted to see our plates were clean in short order. That enthusiasm is refreshing to see.

It’s easy to bash restaurants for a bad day, the least we can do is give them a nod when they do it right. We wish them the best of luck and thank them for brining us an affordable night, or lunch, out, serving cook to order food we love. Oh, and there is live music, too.

Well done; thanks Bokeelia Cracker Cafe.
