‘Hot’ time was had at Chili Cook-off
To the editor:
It was another “hot” time at the third annual Chili Cook-off at the VFW Post 4353. Thank you to Camper Tommy, Wade Fontenot and Karin Walsh for doing a great job as the anonymous judges. The first place winners were Jan Green (chili) and Paul Bickford (cornbread), second place winners were Toni Birdwell (chili) and Sheryl Doing (cornbread), and third place winners were Pete Gonyea (chili) and Toni Birdwell (cornbread). The People’s Choice rophies went to Jim Doling (chili) and Jan Green (cornbread). The winner of the Kidney Bean Count was Cora with her guess of 5,700. The number of beans in the jar was 7,068. Great job everyone!
Thanks to all the participants, to Bob and Sal for their entertainment, to everyone who came to enjoy the festivities and to all the people that helped make this event success.
Thank you for donations for the raffles; David with Suncoast Beverages, John with JJ Taylor, Jim Ryan with Mango Tango, Dan, manager of Winn-Dixie for the donations of hot dogs and buns, Dr. Watson’s, Tome with Sign Makers and Window Tinting, Joyce Lake, Karen Lafrieu, Becki King, Jill Davidson, Natalie Gazda, Jeanette Janette, Jean Freda, Shirley Love, Pine Island Marine and Tackle, and Paul and Toni Birdwell. I sincerely apologize if I missed anyone and thank you all.
I want to especially thank the Ladies Auxiliary help, Becki King, Natalie Gazda, Jeanne Healy, Dottie Osmer, Joyce Lake, Karne Mellor, and Jill Davidson. Also thanks to Paul Birdwell, VFW Jr. Vice, for all your help. Without all of you it wouldn’t happen.
Stay tuned for another hot time at the VFW Post 4353 Ladies Auxiliary 4th annual Chili Cook-off next year. Everyone is welcome to participate or just come and have fun.
Remember, all proceeds go to the Ladies Auxiliary to help our Veterans.
