To the editor:

What’s going on at the Beacon? who put these other people in charge?

When the organization started on Stringfellow Road, there was Jill Davidson, Sheri Dube and Barb Peckinpaugh. They put their heart and soul into the place. Jill left early, but helped islanders while she was there. The whole reason for the Beacon was for the needy people here. Sheri and Barb did a fantastic job and it grew bigger, so they needed a bigger place and they succeeded in doing that, and may I say with much help from Rocky.

Now that it is growing, other organizations jump in and push our people out. I went to the shop after my trip up north and asked where Sheri was. “Oh, she quite to get another job.” Well where’s Rocky? “Oh we didn’t need his services anymore.” Same situation on Barb. Baloney!

That was Sheri and Barb’s heart in that place. Who is in there now that would care as much as those girls did? And where on earth did they come from? Did they ever volunteer at the Beacon? I thought I knew all the ones that worked there.

We want them back. Many of us.
