Starting school with a smile

2 min read

To the editor:

Each new school year can you remember the trips to the store to buy new notebooks and paper, new pencils and lunch boxes, all the tools needed to start the new year with new children, teachers and so on? Many children at Pine Island Elementary School who may not have had the means to enjoy that shopping trip will show up at school smiling with the rest of the children, well supplied, thanks to the generous people in their community.

The Matlacha Hookers collected and distributed a large variety of supplies to Pine Island Elementary principal Rob Mazzoli and helper Sandra Williams on Aug. 18.

We would like to give thanks to the members of the Matlacha Hookers who contributed supplies and business members in the community listed in alphabetical order; All State Pest Control, American Legion Post #136, Bank of America, Beacon of Hope , Century 21, Island Grill, Jackie’s Restaurant, Little Lilly’s Deli, Low Key Tiki, Moose Lodge # 1954, NARFE Chapter 1002, Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, Perfect Cup, Pine Island Community Church, Pine Island Family Hair Salon, Pine Island Library, Pine Island, Methodist Church, Raymary’s Grill, Ragged Ass Saloon, Southwest Capital Bank, Sun Trust Bank, TIB Bank, Trader’s Hitching Post, VFW Post #4353, Wachovia Bank, Waterfront Restaurant, Winn Dixie, and Woody’s Restaurant. Without the wonderful thoughtfulness and generosity of the Greater Pine Island Community the Matlacha Hookers group would not be able to make this possible for these children.

Thank You, Matlacha Hookers, Inc.

Barbara Jameson, Chaplain, Matlacha Hookers
