In support of Dollar General

To the editor:

I am compelled to respond to a recent letter from an island resident and his disappointment with the addition of a Dollar General to Pine Island. I don’t think that “upscale” and Pine Island are synonymous. Last time I looked Pine Island was not Sanibel, nor even close to it. Everyone I’ve ever met lives on “the island” for just that reason. Dollar General will serve a great need and save many islanders a trip to Cape Coral for discounted items for the home, inexpensive toys, items for holidays, party supplies, office and school supplies. Dollar General serves not only lower-income clientele, but working middle class families and, (yes) even “upscale” residents, looking for a bargain! I welcome Dollar General and thank Mr. Buchannan and GPICA for supporting it.
