Thank you to the innovative people and organizations of Greater Pine Island
To the editor:
It’s hard to pass up the chance to say thank you to the people, organizations, churches and individuals who come up with unique ways to donate to the Pine Island Food Pantry.
Winn-Dixie, Dan Loughren, manager and his personnel, who constantly, go out of their way to help in any way they can.
There’s the Pine Island Cove Ladies Luncheon Group, who for the past months have been sending a check to the Pantry, collected by running a monthly 50/50 raffle.
Groups who meet each month, like the Matlacha Hookers and do a collection of food, paper products, or whatever they find the Food Pantry is in need of at the time.
Kip Lawrence, who performs for people of the island, for their donations of canned goods and non-perishable items to the Pine Island Food Pantry. His March performance brought 516.4 pounds of food to our shelves.
The Nimble Thimble Quilters of Pine Island Cove and the Ladies of St. James City Hobby Club, for their monetary donations and the beautiful lap robes.
The Ladies Marathon Bridge Group, who once again dropped off their cash donation.
Those individuals, who forego birthday presents at their parties and ask for a food or cash donation to the Pine Island Food Pantry.
The bingo players from Flamingo Bay, Pine Island Cove, St. James Civic Center, Tropic Isles Travel Resort who bring canned goods and non-perishable items every time they play bingo.
There are the monthly supporters, the special holiday supporters, those who appear when sometimes we wonder where the next donation might come from.
All the churches who not only bring food regularly from their Sunday collections, but also support with monetary donations.
The organizations who always step forward with continual support; the VFW, American Legion, Garden Club, Mariners, Matlacha Civic Association, German-American Club, Bokeelia Civic Association, Cape Royal Community Foundation, Greater Pine Island Elks, Greater Pine Island Lions, the U.S. Postal Service and their carriers and any that we might have missed. You know who you are and please accept a sincere thank you from the Pine Island Food Pantry volunteers and the recipients of your generosity, the needy and hungry people of the island.
