Lavender’s Landing
To the editor:
What a slap in the face it is to the local residents that the marina in Bokeelia which few in the area wanted the county to buy has been named for a county employee, one of the highest-paid employees at that. The former name of Hidden Harbor Marina was, to me, much better than Lavender Landing. If it had to be renamed, it ought to have been named “Bob Janes Landing” as a remembrance to a man we respected here.
I wonder why there has been no effort to rename the Fishermen’s Co-op “Owens Folly”? Could it be that we taxpayers coughed up three or four hundred percent of what the place was worth on a must-act-now purchase made in haste a few years ago? The place isn’t even a fully public marina yet.
