See Rubio for who he really is

To the editor:

It was with no small amount of confusion that I read the “Lee County Patriots” were hosting a luncheon on Pine Island recently for one of the candidates for U.S. Senate, Marco Rubio. It seems as though Marco Rubio is the candidate they’ve thrown their support behind, but I have to admit the reason escapes me. While perusing the patriots’ “values” section of their Web site, I was particularly struck by the sentence “The Constitution is not a welfare document – It is simply ‘unsustainable’ for the government to provide for all the basics needs of society”. Really?!

You might then want to re-examine your devotion to Mr. Rubio. It seems to me he’s just like every other politician, a hypocrite. Apparently he was a little liberal with the use of his GOP provided credit card while he was speaker of the Florida House. Expenses include charging nearly $4,000 for the repair of the family’s minivan, a five-week car rental, Winn-Dixie for “food”, Everglades Lumber for “supplies”, the Apple online store for “computer supplies” totaling $765, even a place called “Happy Wine” for beverages and meal.

The IRS requires political parties to spend their money exclusively on influencing elections. I fail to see how using donor money, your money, for repairs to his family’s minivan squares with your “values”. Consider this, on a day that his travel records say he was in Tallahassee, he charged $412 at a shop called All Fusion Electronics in Miami. His campaign claimed it was for “computer repairs”. All Fusion is a music equipment store. Maybe he needed a drum kit? Vote for who you choose, but try and look past the $134 haircut, and see the man for what he really is, a phony.
