Open letter to Commissioner Janes
To the editor:
Once again Matlacha is being affected by the old “ZIP code” issue. If you remember years ago when I was president of the Matlacha Civic Association we tried very hard to get the Postal Service to give us our own ZIP code. Through the years we still have had problems each time we give the 33993 or 33991.
Hospitals still have it listed as Cape Coral. Any time you order something to be delivered you have to explain that it is Matlacha not Cape Coral.
Now the 2010 Pine Island Community Directory has come out and not one residence in Matlacha is in the book. I contacted the publisher and they stated that they buy by zip code. They understood from the many phone calls they have received that Matlacha residences are not in the book. I asked how the businesses got in and they said they buy business information from another source.
Matlacha is a unique area. What can we possibly do about this situation? It is too late for this book. When I asked what would happen next year and the publisher stated those that call in they will make sure they are in the book. Does that sound reasonable to you?
Thank you for your time.
