Little Dog is returned

2 min read

To The Editor:

A BIG thank you to Marianne Paton and the Pine Island Eagle!

On Saturday Aug. 29, Matlacha “Mayor” Ralph Kemp’s “Little Dog” was taken from his Matlacha front yard and put into a car that immediately drove away towards Cape Coral. Eighty-six-year-old Ralph was heartbroken. Signs went up all around the community. Calls were put in to the various humane societies.

On Monday morning, Aug. 31, a request was made to Marianne at the Eagle to put something in the paper to help with the situation. She promised she would do what she could however the paper was in the final process of being printed. The paper was published on Sept. 1 along with the article “Dog is taken from yard.” Marianne was able to get the article in at the last moment.

On Sept. 2, Ralph received a call from the Humane Society that someone had read the paper and brought in the dog that Wednesday morning to the Society. Thanks to the Eagle, Ralph has his dog back home.

I guess the internet won’t be replacing the Pine Island Eagle any time soon. It’s good to know that our local paper and staff does its best to be responsive to our community.
