A growing concern from Sea Holly resident
To the Editor:
The plans of a local developer to build a commercial boat ramp have ended with the sale of the two lots on Sea Holly Land and four lots on York Road to Lee County. This plan surfaced in 2003 and was vigorously fought by many residents.
The zoning variance was finally granted to the developer in a third hearing, but the approved plan was very complicated and very expensive. In the meantime, the 76 home site property that the ramp would serve, was rapidly losing its value and appeal. No homes were built.
As of this writing, the county itself is planning a canoe and kayak launch, which they believe would have very little impact on the neighborhood. Of the 15 homes on Sea Holly Lane, four are new owners with little or no knowledge of the proposed launch. Some have thought it could be OK, while others would prefer that the Sea Holly lots revert back to residential zoning.
While the zoning variance stays with the property, the county will have to undergo the same process as the developer to get a plan approved.
At present, it appears as if this will proceed slowly, but keep your eyes and ears open and stay tuned.
