Nothing new about global warming and cooling
To the Editor:
Reliable records show that the earth has been going through regular cycles of warming and cooling for hundreds of thousands of years. The recent warming is a recovery from the mini-ice age of the 1800s. The temperature rise has been a modest 0.6 degrees over the last century. Members of the United Nation’s International Panel on Climate Change announced in May of 2008 that, “After adjusting our models to correspond to actual measured temperatures, it is apparent that warming has ended.” The “measured temperatures” are from the NASA satellites, monitored by Dr. John Christy, which have been showing that the earth has been cooling since 2001.
On April 5, 2008, IPCC senior scientist Kevin Treberth announced that, “None of the models used by the IPCC is initialized to the observed state, and none of the models correspond remotely to the current observed climate.” Translation: The IPCC predictions which are responsible for the global warming hysteria are worthless.
It gets worse. The Russian Institut for Climat recently released the results of a study which concluded, “In the four years since Al Gore’s movie was released, temperatures have fallen at a rate equivalent to 6 degrees C per century, enough to usher in an ice age if this exceptional and rapid rate of cooling were to continue as far as 2100.”
What can we do about warming or cooling? Nothing!
