Open letter to MPIFCD
To the editor:
Dear Dave, and all the rest of the department, + the Auxiliary:
That’s not a very good way for me to begin this, but I don’t know how else to do it to include everyone.
There are no words to express how very, very much I appreciate all you did for us. I am humbled by your generosity, and the honor that you did to Marty by naming the station for him. He would be so pleased, but would continue to insist that the honor goes to his men. I wish he could have been present, but am extremely grateful that he did know that it was going to happen. The plaque is absolutely beautiful, and the station itself looks as if you have thought very carefully and included every possible innovation. He would be delighted with that also, and would be impressed that the property is so close to where he had in mind to position the Bokeelia station.
It was wonderful to see so many of the group who were involved with the department back in the day. Seeing them brings back so many great happy memories.
God bless each and every one of you, and may He continue to keep you free from harm as you continue your good work to keep all the residents of and visitors to the island safe.
