Why we live on Pine Island
To the editor:
This is why we live on Pine Island and thank our lucky stars almost daily that we found this wonderful place.
Our 16-year-old daughter, Katherine, had a blowout on her front tire at 6 a.m. Dec. 2, less than a mile from our St. James City home on her way to Mariner High School. The car swerved into a six-foot ditch and hit a concrete revetment just north of Tropical Point Drive, head-on, at 45 miles per hour.
Pine island Paramedic and Firefighter Tim Larrimore was riding his bicycle to work, and at the exact point the accident occurred. He sprang into action, called the Paramedic team from the Pine Island Fire Department and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and looked after our daughter in the meantime. And although Katie came out of the crash without injury, thank God, Tim was there to help.
When we personally went to the fire department later in the day to thank him he said, “No need to do that, it’s my job.”
No. Mr. Larrimore, Pine Island is neighbors helping neighbors. You showed us Pine Island at its finest. As did the countless Pine Islanders who stopped at the accident scene to ask if they could help.
We owe our debt of gratitude to Mr. Larrimore, the Pine Island Fire Department, the Lee County Sheriff’s Department, which also responded immediately, and all our neighbors who showed they care.
Pine Island is a unique place in this world, and we are thankful, always, for having placed our roots here.
