Poker Run a big success
To the Editor:
The day started out gloomy with a few sprinkles, but for once the weather forecasters were right. Out popped the sun for the Pine Island Boat Club’s Annual Poker Run. There were boaters, kayakers, bicyclists, motorcyclists and a few other modes of transportation. Late that afternoon at Woody’s was a celebration for all who participated, with wonderful island music provided by Frank Tuma.
Prizes for the three best poker hands were awarded. This year’s best hand was five fives, which brought the winner $1,000; 2nd place was $350 and 3rd place was $150. The loser’s hands, by drawings, were a $100 cash award, a $150 gift certificate donated by Cabbage Key toward a one-night stay and a $50 gift certificate provided by Woody’s — not bad for losing’ hands!
A big thank you to our emcee Alex Alexander, to Woody’s Waterside, Island Cow Trading Company, Ragged Ass Saloon, Waterfront Restaurant, Green Flash Restaurant, Jensen’s Marina, Winn Dixie, our dealers and other workers, our ticket sellers and a special thanks to Pink and Ron Wesorick for all their help. Because of your contributions, the Pine Island Boat Club is able to donate approximately $3,000 to the Calusa Land Trust.
If you missed this year’s fun, please join us for the 2009 Poker Run planned for next Dec. 6.
With our thanks and very best wishes
