John W. Thomas III
John W. Thomas III of St. James City, passed away on January 8, 2022 in Cape Coral, Florida. John was born in Newport News, Virginia to John W. Thomas Jr and Paula N. Thomas. He attended school in Yorktown, VA and Portland, OR and graduated from the Piney Point School of Seamanship in Piney Point, MD. He was employed as a tow boat Captain for Kirby Marine for over 25 years.
He was preceded in death by his mother and he is survived by his wife, Kay Thomas; his father, John Thomas Jr.; brother, William Thomas (Tammy); sister, Susan Brookes; son, Christopher J. Thomas; daughter, Summer Gasque (Nicole); and stepson, Barry Tolles (Kyleigh). John was grandfather to three grandchildren, Jaden and Jazlyn Goodrum and Lila Tolles and Uncle to Ashley, Kristi, Trevor, and Jett.
John was an avid boater spending time at both Smith Mountain Lake and in South Florida waters.
A celebration of life will be held on March 26, 2022.
