Danny Lee “Island Dan” Hurley, 47, was born July 9, 1944, to Eldon and Virginia Hurley in Des Moines, Iowa.

A Bokeelia resident since 1996, he passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on Friday, May 2, 2014.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; sister, Peggy Peel; brother-in-law, Bob brother/sister-in-law, George and Annette Brinkley; nephews, Scott (Kim) Mooers and Greg (Robin) Mooers; great nephews/nieces, Braden, Coby, Jacob, Brady, Keegan, Kasey, Amma and Ava Mooers; step-children, Kelly Albers, Sean and Randy Brinkley; mother-in-law, Marion Brinkley; daughters. Rochelle and Michelle; and son, Jimmy.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

He was a dedicated member and president of Rolling Thunder Chapter 2, member of American Legion Post 136, American Legion Riders Post 136, VFW and VVA, the Moose Lodge and Abate.

He was a true American patriot and loved his country.

A memorial service will be held at the American Legion Post 136, Sunday, May 25, at 3 p.m.

Services at Sarasota National Cemetery will be announced at a later date.
