John Temple Wilson, 62, was born Sept. 29, 1951, to Archie and Lois Wilson in Brush, Colorado. After high school, he volunteered for the Army and served two tours in Vietnam. After his discharge, he earned his private pilot’s license, partnered in a construction company and owned and operated restaurants.

He moved to Pine Island in 1987, quickly made many friends and opened a restaurant named “The Borderline” in St. James City, serving his famous dish known only to the locals as “garbage.” He spent his spare time boating, fishing and golfing. He was known for his historic tee shot from the 9th tee onto the roof of the Alden Pines clubhouse.

Mr. Wilson died suddenly and unexpectedly Friday, Dec. 13, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife, Connie; his faithful golden Lab, “Shiner;” sister, Christine; and nieces, Amber and Kai-ley of Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother and brother.

He loved to make people laugh, give flowers to old ladies and had a kind and gentle heart.

In lieu of flowers or donations, just smile bigger, tell a joke (off color is OK) or help a friend as John would have.

His wife and friends will always love and miss him.
