Harry (Bud) Brown Jr.

Harry (Bud) Brown Jr. was born to Ada and Harry Brown Sr. on Christmas Eve, 1923, in Webster City, Iowa. He passed away Oct. 4, 2013.

He was the second of four children and grew up with his sisters, Lorraine and Shirley, and his younger brother, Harold. He joined the Navy at 17 he served on the USS Brooks in World War II in the South Pacific. His time and love for the ocean didn’t end with war.

He spent many years traversing the globe as chief engineer in the Merchant Marines. He came to Pine Island in 1958, helped to build the St James Civic Center, having chicken dinners for the volunteer fire department and driving the ambulance. In later years, he joined V.O.I.C.E. and enjoyed riding around the island and talking to people.

In addition to the many member of the community that will miss him, he is survived by his brother, Harold; nieces, Melinda Dodds, Cynthis Subec and Georgia Daughtery; nephews, Bill Liggett and Ray Brown ;and many grand-nieces and nephews.
