Nellie Susanna Wisse LaMeire died peacefully at her home in Bokeelia July 17, 2013, at the age of 104. She was born in Paterson, N.J., the daughter of Jacob Wisse and Anna Vande Gejuchte, along with her two sisters, Florence Gaugler and Anna Payne, both now deceased. She is predeceased by her husband, Samuel LaMeire, and two nephews, Arthur William Payne Jr. and Robert Jacob Payne.

She is survived by her nephew, Lawrence William Payne of Falls Church, Va, as well as nine great-nieces and nephews scattered through the United States.

She eloped with Samuel LaMeire, who she was married to for 67 years before his death in 1995. She worked for the New Jersey State Workers Compensation for 35 years before retiring to Bokeelia in 1960.

Her retirement was short lived when she went to work at the old Bokeelia Post Office where she was known and loved by everyone she came in contact with. She retired again and was re-hired where she worked at the new Post Office on Barrancas Road until she was 86.

She was extremely active in the community. She was a founding member of the Ladies Guild as well as an original member of our Lady of Miraculous Medal Church in Bokeelia. She helped the library on Pine Island get built and was there to help anyone that needed her.

If ever there was an angel that walked among us, it was Nellie. She made a wonderful impact on everyone she met … never had an unkind word and she was always a great listener. She will be greatly missed by everyone who ever know her. She was truly a woman that helped shape the Pine Island of today.

A Funeral Mass will be held at the Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Church Wednesday, Sept. 4, at 10 am.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Pine island Library.
