William “Bill” Douglas West

William “Bill” Douglas West, 60, of Cape Coral passed away Monday, April 22, 2013. He was born Sept. 23, 1952, in Gary, Ind. He was a graduate of Indiana University with a master of arts degree in English literature. He was an English teacher at Mariner High School since 1988. He was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Community, the Knights of Columbus Council 11177, Florida Education Association and the Teachers Association of Lee County. He was a friend to everyone he met and he touched many lives.

He is survived by his loving family, including his wife of 36 years, Claudia (Szawica) West; daughter, Angela West of Tampa; son, Chris West of Geneva, Switzerland; mother, Edith West of Naples, Fla.; sister, Debra Ward of Naples, Fla.; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, William M. West.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., today, April 26, at Coral Ridge Funeral Home, 1630 Pine Island Road, Cape Coral. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 27, at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Community, 1922 S.W. 20th Ave., Cape Coral. Entombment will follow at Coral Ridge Cemetery.
