Eugene (Gene) Paul Rossman

Eugene (Gene) Paul Rossman, 86, of St. James City, and a Florida resident, passed on Jan. 23, 2013.

He was born in Castleton-on-the-Hudson, N.Y. Gene served in the Navy in World War II and participated in the Normandy invasion to liberate France. He was recently honored by Porter Goss.

When Gene lived in Michigan, he was a professional engineer. After moving to Florida, he predicated in designing many commercial building in Fort Myers. including the Barbara B. Mann Hall.

Gene was an outdoorsman and loved the sea and the mountains. He was a member of the American Sailing Association and taught sailing. He also held a Captain’s license to teach power boating and to take people on cruises. For variety, he was a stone crabber for a year, a tugboat captain and a commercial fisherman. He lived aboard his boats for many years.

Gene summered in Colorado with his life partner, Marsha Perlman, beginning in 1995.Together they traveled, hiked, camped, biked and also climbed one of Colorado’s 14,000-foot mountains. In the winter they boated, kayaked and fished. He was loved and is missed.

Gene is survived by his son Paul Rossman (Su), Chris Rossman, Patty Rossman and Lynn Ruby, granddaughters Erica and Melissa, brother Richard (Patty), sister Barbara (Art), nieces and nephews. And his extended family, the Hansens (Hillari, Lee, Kailey, Nicolas), Chernows (Harneen, Simon, Hayden, Susan Moir), brother Richard and the Chernows (Andrew and Monica.) They will miss him.

Gene will be remembered for his spirituality, warmth, kindness, patience, sincerity, love and sense of humor to all whose paths he crossed.
