Jean H. Mayhew, 90, of St. James City, passed away peacefully Dec. 22, 2012.

She is survived by her son, Ron Mayhew (Lynne) of St. James City, her grandson, Brian Mayhew (Aileen) and two great-grandsons, Carson and Logan of Raleigh, N.C.; her granddaughter, Kim Demien (Eric) and his four children, Clayton, Kyle, Alyssa and Brent of Southaven, Miss.

Her loving husband, Bob, passed away in 1989.

She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, Nov. 9, 1922, to George and Agnes Kozak. She and her husband (who was in the Navy at the time) moved to Miami, Fla., in 1941, and lived there until 1978.

Upon retirement and wanting to be closer to Ron and Lynne, they moved to Waynesville, N.C., and owned and operated their own craft shop and gallery near the Blue Ridge Mountains.

She moved to Pine Island with Ron and Lynne in 2004 and continued her art with a passion. She had fond memories of attending art classes in Matlacha and participating in the annual art show. She loved to paint flowers and was nick named “The Hibiscus Lady” after her favorite flower.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring for friends and family and will take place in her home where her “artful” spirit resides.
