Kathryn Lorraine Lynch Doherty

Kathryn Lorraine Lynch Doherty, born in Joliet, Ill., Jan. 9, 1927, to Daniel W. and Lula Hoskins Lynch, passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning Dec. 8, 2012.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Robert “Bobby” Doherty, who died Nov. 13, 2005, and granddaughter, Bridget Marie Gaines; sisters, Helen and Marie; and brother, Alvin Lynch.

She is survived by son, Daniel R. Doherty, wife Sarah and daughter, Nancy D. Gaines, husband, Keith, granddaughters, Amanda and Allison G. Gibson; husband, Scott; also, step-grandchildren, Stanley and Sonya’ and three step-great grandchildren. She also leaves behind two sisters, Johnnie Rae and Tressie.

Katie and Bobby’s love story started in Pine Bluff, Ark., Sept. 5, 1947, and continued as they moved many times thanks to IBM. They lived in Clemmons, N.C., from 1967-1973 before moving to Greensboro, N.C., and retiring. They loved to travel, visiting Israel, Mexico, Canada, Egypt, Bahamas and many places in the U.S. They became “snowbirds” and later came to rest on Pine Island, in 1992.

Katie was an inspiration, entertainer and hero to many who met and knew her. She will be greatly missed by her children and family. No public services will be held.

She will be interred beside her soul mate, Bobby, in Cape Coral.
