Laurel Lloyd “Andy” Anderson
Laurel Lloyd “Andy” Anderson, 89, was called home to his Lord Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, while at Hope Hospice of North Fort Myers. A memorial will be held at the Sheridan United Methodist Church Sunday, Oct. 7, at 2 p.m.
He was born Aug. 19, 1923, to Lloyd A. Anderson and Hazel Jones Anderson of Somonauk, Ill. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Elaine, and son, Jeff.
Surviving children include Nick Anderson (Charlotte) of Clearwater, Fla., Julie Abbott-Jones of Black River Falls, Wis., Lisa Clausel (Paul) of Archdale, N.C., and Daniel Anderson of Fort Myers; grandchildren, Angela “Christy” Zolper (Michael), Chrissy Chandler, Shelly Strijeweski (Alex), Lina and David Clausel and Vijay Mahtani Anderson; and seven great-grandchildren.
He grew up farming alongside his father, even delivering milk by mule-drawn wagon during the Great Depression.
He graduated from Marseilles High School, where he later served as a guidance counselor for 17 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy from 1942 to 1946. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wyoming in 1949, married Elaine Louise Erickson on June 10, 1950, and then earned his master’s degree from Northern Illinois University in 1967.
He enjoyed an active lifestyle, starting with basketball and baseball, then hunting and fishing, and later golf. While enjoying his career as a counselor, he also enjoyed “gentleman” farming, raising cattle and Arabian horses on his farm, Fox Haven, outside of Sheridan, Ill. After his retirement, the couple enjoyed splitting their year between Sheridan and Pine Island. He and Elaine cherished time with their family and friends, hosting fishing trips complete with a fish fry at the end of the day. He gave of himself freely to family, friends, church members and members of his community; he was a man of rare quality.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Hope Hospice of North Fort Myers for the compassionate care given to Andy. Memorials are to be directed to either Pine Island UMC or the Sheridan UMC.
