Charles “Chuck” Edward Jones Jr., 76, of St. James City died Sept. 15, 2012, at his home after a short fight against pancreatic cancer.
Born in Troy, N.Y., July 13, 1936, to Charles E. and Anna (Durivage) Jones, he graduated from Cobleskill High School in 1954. He went on to earn a mechanical engineering degree from Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., in 1958, and was a brother in the Sigma Chi fraternity. He served his country honorably as a 1st lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force Strategic Air Command Division stationed in San Antonio, Texas, at the Randolph Air Force Base.
His life’s work would center on electronic control systems and their application to energy management and conservation. In 1990, he began Advanced Control Corporation in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., with his two sons where he remained active in the business as both a consultant and advisor.
During his lifetime, he traveled throughout most of the world and enjoyed the good friends he made and the cultures he encountered along his travels. As an avid boater and fisherman, he enjoyed the waters of Cape Cod and Southwest Florida. His other pastimes included caring for his bougainvilla and bird of paradise and teasing his wife of 25 years, Kathy, who will miss that greatly.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Jones leaves three children, Avis (James) Sparacino of Elmhurst, Ill., David (Mary Ann) Jones of Lighthouse Point, Fla., and Matthew (Kathy) Jones of Coral Springs. He was the loving grandfather and mentor to 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
