Margaret R. Alexander

Margaret R. Alexander of Matlacha, previously a long-time resident of the Youngstown, Ohio, area, passed away Monday, July 15, 2012, at the Sterling House assisted living residence in Cape Coral. She had been in apparent good health and died while attending the Sterling House Sunday worship service. She would have celebrated her 94th birthday July 27.
She was born Margaret Rebecca Vetter July 27, 1918, in New Castle, Pa., daughter of Albert and Ruth Needler Vetter.
She was the beloved wife of 65 years to William “Bill” Alexander, whom she married Oct. 24, 1941; a loving mother to Diane Maher of Matlacha and Lynn Zigoris of Vienna Va; grandmother to John Maher of Bokeelia and Michael (Patty) Maher of Maribel, Wis.; and great-grandmother to William and James Maher, also in Maribel, Wis.
During her many years in Youngstown, Margaret “Peg” was an active and long-time member of Foster Memorial Presbyterian Church and enjoyed membership with Bill at the Saxon Club. In 2000, she and Bill moved to a home in Matlacha where they lived together until Bill’s death in late 2006. There she attended Pine Island United Methodist Church. Since the fall of 2009, she made her home at Sterling House in Cape Coral.
She was a devoted wife, mother and home maker. Her gentle care and love for family and friends taught them a lot about love and commitment.
Visitation is scheduled for family and local friends at Coral Ridge Funeral Home in Cape Coral on Saturday, July 28, at 10 a.m., followed by a service at 11 a.m.
Interment will be at Poland Riverside Cemetery in Poland, Ohio.
