Edith “Tootsie” French
Edith “Tootsie” French, formerly of Pine Island Cove, passed away at her home in Lincolnton, N.C., Sunday, May 15, 2011, after a brief illness.
Edith was born in Winooski, Vermont on May 21, 1943, to Joseph and Josephine Barber.
On Sept. 5, 1959, she married her childhood sweetheart and best friend Thomas French. They shared 50 beautiful years together raising their family and enjoying life before his death in 2010.
She was active in the auxiliaries of the VFW and American Legion while on the island and also in many charities that benefited our veterans. Her hobbies included gardening, crocheting, knitting and various other crafts. Her house was known in Pine Island Cove as the place to go for coffee and conversation.
Edith leaves behind to cherish her memory three children: son Mark French and wife Nancy Munn of Enosburg Falls, Vt.; daughter Kim French Robtoy and husband Steve of Richmond, Vt.; and Nicki French Gamble and husband Dewey of Lincolnton, N.C. She also leaves grandchildren Joey, Amber, Bryan, Kelsey, Bradley (deceased), Matthew, Jessica, Jake, Casey and Katie. She also leaves behind several great-grandchildren and numerous friends.
