Harry Frederick Rowland
Harry Frederick Rowland, 89, passed away Monday, Dec. 27, 2010. Born Feb. 11, 1921, in Piedmont, Mo. to the late Virgil and Mary Ellen Rowland, the youngest of seven children, all of whom are deceased. He leaves his wife of 68-1/2 years, Roberta, and two daughters: Beverly Joan Dunahoo (Riley) of Cumby, TX and Barbara Lou Robinson (Will) of Cleburne, Texas. A son, David, predeceased him. He is also survived by six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Harry served in the Navy during WWII aboard an aircraft carrier in the Pacific. His ship was also present in Tokyo Bay at the signing of the peace treaty on Sept. 2, 1945.
Harry graduated from Henry Ford Trade School in Detroit, Mi. and was a tool designer by trade, working 34 years at Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Peoria, Illinois, retiring in 1982 and moving to St. James City. He was a member of the Pine Island United Methodist Church for 28 years.
He will be sorely missed by his wife and family. Services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 8, at the Pine Island United Methodist Church with the Rev. Edward Kellum officiating.
