Gordon Henry Short

Gordon Henry Short, 84, of Bokeelia passed away on Monday, Sept. 20, 2010, at his home. He was born on April 29, 1926, in Lupton, Mich., to Clarence and Henrietta Rehil Short. Mr. Short moved to Bokeelia four years ago from Naples where he resided for 16 years. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. He retired as a superintendent from General Motors after 40 years working with the Buick Motor Division, Sheet Metal Department in Flint, Mich. Mr. Short was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church in Cape Coral. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elk’s Grand Blanc Lodge No. 222, the Buick retiree club, Buick Plant 12 golf league and a member of Countryside Country Club in Naples. He had a passion for playing golf and had the privilege to golf in Scotland at the Old Course and was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed playing cards with his family.

He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 60 years, Vivian Parker Short; three children, Gordon (Nancy) Short of Bokeelia, Tamara Porwoll of Racine, WI, Cheryl (Jerry) Smith of Bokeelia; grandchildren, Jason (Amanda) Short, Jonathan Short, Brian (Dana) Warden, Jill Caudill, Rebecca (Jacob) Zabkowicz, Sarah Porwoll, Patrick Porwoll, Darrick Potts, Kyle Potts, Jordan Potts, Travis (Brooke) Moore, great-grandchildren, Liran Potts, Macy Caudill, Olivia Warden, and Madilynn Warden, brother, Walter Short; sisters, Shirley Smith and Vivian Greene; the members of the Parker family and many dear friends. Mr. Short was predeceased by his brothers, Arthur Short and Lloyd Short; sister, Frances Thayer; and son-in-law, Thomas Porwoll. Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23, at Coral Ridge Funeral Home, 1630 SW Pine Island Road, Cape Coral. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, at Faith Presbyterian Church, 4544 Coronado Parkway, Cape Coral, FL 33904, with Dr. H. Timothy Halverson officiating.
