Catherine M. Cassidy

Sept. 11, 1932 – Sept. 20, 2010

On Sept. 20, 2010, Catherine Cassidy went Home to be with her Jesus.

Cathy moved to Pine Island in 1972 with her husband, George and their children. Most people knew Cathy as the warm and friendly woman who worked the cosmetic counter at Eckerd Drug store. There weren’t too many of her children’s friends who didn’t think of Cathy as their ‘second mother.’

God blessed Teresa, Doug, Mark and Kacee with a loving, feisty mom who welcomed any of their friends into her home. The fact that her middle initial stood for “Mae” and not “Mom” would have come as a surprise to most who knew her. After losing her beloved husband, George, and her daughter Teresa, Cathy decided it was time for a change, so she moved to Arcadia with her oldest son, Doug.

Cathy fell in love with country living, enjoying the open spaces, and the wildlife, in particular all the bunnies that showed up in her yard. She also fell in love with Pine Level United Methodist Church and Pine Level UMC fell in love with her. A memorial service will be held there for her family and close friends in the coming weeks.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Pine Level United Methodist Church in her honor. The church’s address is 9596 NW Pine Level Street, Arcadia, Fla. 34266.

Cathy leaves behind her sons Doug and Mark; her daughter Kacee (Joe) Spradlin; her grandsons, Jesse, Justin and Jared Wentz and her granddaughters, Gypsy, Shelli and Lisa and several great-grandchildren.
