Astrid O. Mascoe

Astrid Othelie Mascoe, 104, of Cape Coral, formerly of Bokeelia, passed away on Sept. 7, 2010. She was born on June 24, 1906, in Holt, Norway, to Knut Olsen Odegard and Hedwig Brauner Odegrad. Mrs. Mascoe move to the area in 1957 coming from Saratoga Springs, NY. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service as Post Master of Bokeelia. She was a member of the Fort Myers Peace River Grange, Sons of Norway-Everglades Lodge #529, D.A.V. Auxiliary #155. She was a Charter Member of the Pine Island United Methodist and current member of Christ Lutheran Church in Cape Coral. Mrs. Mascoe was the founder of the Pine Island Library.

She is survived by her loving family including her daughter, Elaine Doherty Clancy of Bokeelia and Fort Myers; sister, Ella Christiansen of Naples; grandchildren, Patricia (Archy Lowry) Doherty of Orlando, Thomas (Hazel) Doherty of Webster, NY, Paige (Gary Gruszecki) Doherty of Golden, CO, Debbie (Rick) Farrell of Matlacha, Peter (Mimi) Foss of Mystic, CT; great-grandchildren, Paul Gruszecki, Parker Foss, Alaiana Doherty, Patrick Doherty and Rebecca Farrell. She is preceded in death by her son, William Kenneth Foss, sisters, Ragna Hovland and Mildred Kirsebon.

Visitation and funeral was held on Friday, Sept. 10, 2010 at Coral Ridge Funeral Home in Cape Coral followed by burial at Coral Ridge Cemetery.
