William ‘Bill’ Edward Campbell Jr.

William ‘Bill’ Edward Campbell Jr. passed away on July 29, 2010. The son of

the late William and Helen Campbell, Bill was born on June 30, 1954, in Salisbury, Maryland..

Relocating from Baltimore, Maryland, Bill had been a Pine Island resident

since 2006. Active in his community, he was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in St. James City, where he was a Lay Eucharistic Minister, on the Bishops Committee and had served as Junior Warden. He also was a member of the Greater Pine Island Lions Club and served as Treasurer and Chaplain. Prior to moving to Pine Island, Bill worked as a computer technologist for a large law firm in Maryland.

Bill is survived by a sister, Mary Ann Layfield and husband, Reggie, of Princess Anne; nieces, Susan Dawn Adams, and husband, Clint, of Savannah, Ga., Nancy Jones Dize and husband, Roger, of Princess Anne and Sandra Robin Edelen of Savannah; a nephew, John W Bromley II and wife, Christine, of Allen; great-nieces and nephews, Amanda Rygiel, Ashley Edelen, John W. Bromley III, Robyn Adams, Sean Adams, Andrew and Katlyn Dize and Ryland Rygiel; several cousins. Other survivors include his long time friend, Sonny Koutsoutis of St. James City and his partner, Jerry Maille of Lehigh Acres.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Jean Bromley.

Bill loved Pine Island and in particular, working at the Duck Race each year to support the Calusa Land Trust. He was always there when anyone needed him and is thought of by friends as being soft spoken, gentle and honest. He will be greatly missed by the community he loved so much.

Memorial services were held at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Monday, Aug. 2. Presiding was the Reverend Ryan Wright.
