Jonel Hoogterp
Dick and Judie Garthwaite, of Flamingo Bay, were called to the UP of Michigan upon the death of their granddaughter ( Jonel Hoogterp, 26 ) who was one of three young ladies that were killed deliberately by a hit and run driver. She was visiting her parents in Engading, MI at the time. Jonel was an EMT at the Parkwood Fire Station in Durham, NC. They sent an honor crew to the UP and conducted the service in her honor.
She couldn’t have been loved more by her grand parents than she had been their own child. She was a very special person.
Her first trip to Beaver Island, MI, where Dick and Judie spend the summer, was at 4 1/2 months, in grandpas airplane. It was her favorite place ever since, and flying with grandpa when ever she could.
Grandma Judie works at the Tarpon Lodge, on Pine Island, and is appreciated of all the support she has been given.
