Charles O. Wainright, Jr.

Charles O. Wainright, Jr. 83, of Ft. Myers died Wednesday August 12, 2009. He was born in Jacksonville, Fl in 1925 to Charles Sr. and Virginia Wainright. He joined the US Army at the age of 17 and served in WW II and Korea. He was the recipient of three Purple Hearts and one Bonze Star. Charlie also served as a personal body guard to General Patton.

Charlie was a graduate of the University of Florida where he received his Doctorate. He worked for the Lee county School Board for over 35 years. During his career he served as principal of Edison Park Elementary and Sanibel Elementary. Charlie was well known for his secret recipe for smoked mullet.

He is survived by his wife Peggy, three sons; Charles Wainright III and Frank Pepper Wainright both of Ft. Myers, Keith M. Wainright of St. James City and four grandchildren. Private family services will be planned. Memorial contributions may be made to Lee County Animal Control.
