Robert Kasdan
Robert Kasdan, 66, of Cayo Costa, Fla., passed peacefully away Tuesday, May 12, 2009. Present to ease his passing were his loving wife, Amy, and two close friends, Linda Dana Willis of Boston, and Phil Auger of Hondo, Texas.
He was born Sept. 24, 1942, in Jackson Heights, N.Y., the only child of the late Theodore and Paula Castaldo Kasdan.
After studying at The Pennington School in New Jersey and Ricker College in Houlton, Maine, he served his country as an officer in U.S. Army Intelligence in Frankfurt, Germany, during the Cold War era. While there, he traveled extensively throughout Europe and met his first wife and mother of his two children, Kurt and Nicol.
Upon his return to New York City, Mr. Kasdan began work as a sales trainee for Concord Fabrics Inc. and remained there for 40 years, producing double knit polyester cloth at the company’s mill in Milledgeville, Ga., and eventually retired as the president of Concord Fabrics, Knit Fabrics Division. He has stated that his most recent occupation was counting dolphins.
He lived in the most exciting parts of Manhattan and enjoyed the most beautiful of vacation spots around the Caribbean. Summers were spent in a remote part of Fire Island, N.Y. Many people have been inspired by Robert’s ability to work hard and achieve success without deferring enjoyment of the best life has to offer.
He is survived by his devoted wife and partner of 20 years, Amy Matilda Gallagher, formerly of Cambridge, Mass.; his children, Kurt Hill of Las Vegas, Nev., and Nicol Kasdan of Joliet, Ill.; his treasured nieces and nephews in New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Washington State and Arizona; and numerous exotic and much-loved friends and in-laws.
The family wishes to thank the many truly brilliant and dedicated medical professionals who have helped Mr. Kasdan throughout his time of illness, and especially the kind people of Hope Hospice, who eased his final days with patient care and support. Humble and heartfelt thanks go to his many local friends who have given generously of their various resources, bringing great food, hard work, lovely music and good cheer.
At Robert’s request no formal services will be held. His cremation trousseau will be by his dear friend, Paul Ropp of Bali, Indonesia. Arrangements are being handled by Coral Ridge Funeral Home.
