Robert Dean Murray

Robert Dean Murray, 71, of Bokeelia, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2009. He was born in Stuart, Fla., to Dewitt and Ethel Murray. He moved to the area in 1972 from Miami. As a young boy he spent many summers fishing in Jensen Beach. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving as an air traffic controller and then continued for 22 years after his time in the Air Force.

He enjoyed flying and working on his airplane. He was an avid fisherman, which he enjoyed with his grandson. He and his wife are owners of Tree House Nursery in Bokeelia. He was an accomplished lecturer and participated in many presentations to garden clubs throughout the state. He was a generous man, helping countless people affected by the hurricanes. His family said he was a “helping hand to a neighbor in need.”

He is survived by his loving family, including his wife of 51 years, Vivian; daughters, Lianne A. Murray and Robin R. White; grandchildren, Allisyn Ramirez, Daniel Murray and Trisha Evans; four great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Rose Kellish; and brothers, Lewis Dewitt Murray and Donald Murray.

Visitation was held from 11 a.m. until the funeral service at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, with the Rev. Allene Topham, officiating at Coral Ridge Funeral Home, 1630 Pine Island Road, Cape Coral.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Church of God of Prophecy, 15146 Stringfellow Road, Bokeelia, FL 33922.
