Judith Blanchette Cameron

Judith Blanchette Cameron, 68, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral after a long illness.

She was a life-long resident of New Hampshire and for the last 14 years a winter resident of Pine Island and Cape Coral. She was the daughter of E. Joseph and Pearl “Billie” Blanchette of Sutton. She was the 1958 valedictorian of New London High School. She graduated from Colby Junior College ’60 and the University of New Hampshire ’62 where she met and married Hugh Cameron. They were happily married for 42 years, until his death in 2003. She taught at Bishop Brady High School and in the Concord public school 3R program. She founded and taught at the Emerson School for Preschoolers in Concord.

Mrs. Cameron enjoyed summers on Lake Sunapee with her family and friends and in earlier years, camping and hiking with her family and their beloved golden retrievers in the mountains of New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine. She was a devoted Red Sox and Patriots fan, watching nearly every game even if it meant driving to a Florida sports bar or watching via the Internet (which she came to embrace). She pretended to enjoy skiing and sailing, but preferred fishing in the Gulf of Mexico or canoeing on Lake Sunapee.

In retirement, she resumed her life-long interest in art and became an award-winning painter, selling many original and commissioned works. She was a member of the Pine Island Art Association.

She loved traveling with her husband and friends, and for the past five years with her constant companion, Mr. Hinesly.

She is survived by her beloved companion, Thomas “Gene” Hinesly; a son, Brent MacDonald Cameron of New London, N.H.; a daughter, Joan Cameron (Andrew) Gordon of Medford, N.J.; grandchildren, Alex, Amanda and Jackson Gordon; sister, Barbara (Bob) Burns of North Sutton, N.H.; aunt, Ann Stoddard Merrill of North Sutton, N.H.; sister-in-law. Mary Ellin Cameron of Salisbury N.H.; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held in New Hampshire in the coming summer at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to Hope Hospice, 2430 Diplomat Parkway East, Cape Coral, FL 33909 or The Susan G. Koman Foundation.
