Motorcyclist dies from injuries suffered in Feb. 10 crash
A motorcyclist hospitalized last month following a serious crash has died from his injuries.
Cape Coral police reported that Christopher Michael Vincent Zigarelli, 40, of 530 Omni Lane, Apt. 207, Fort Myers, died Saturday at Lee Memorial Hospital from the injuries he had sustained.
On Feb. 10, Zigarelli was driving a Suzuki north on Del Prado Boulevard in the outside lane. According to police, he drifted to the right for unknown reasons as he approached Southeast Sixth Lane at 10:27 p.m. He drove off of the road and onto the sidewalk, hitting a wooden utility pole head on.
Zigarelli was ejected from the motorcycle, coming to a rest in the road. Police reported that he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Zigarelli was trauma-alerted with life-threatening injuries to the hospital, where he has died.
A traffic homicide investigation is being completed, according to police.
