‘Very excited;’ ‘Very hopeful’: Supporters look forward to Trump administration

Donald J. Trump will be sworn in as the 45th president of the United States today, with his inauguration ceremony beginning at 11:30 a.m. It’s a tradition that goes back as far as the U.S. presidents, themselves and this marks the 58th presidential inauguration in U.S. history.

All major news networks and local stations will air the historic event, many also broadcasting pre- and post-ceremony commentaries, as well.

Following the inauguration ceremony, departing president Barack Obama and family will leave the Capitol via helicopter as an inauguration parade walks down Pennsylvania Avenue to celebrate the new Commander in Chief.

Cape Coral City Councilmember Rana Erbrick is eager to tune in for the inauguration and very hopeful for the country’s future over the next four years.

“As a life-long Republican, I am thrilled that we have a Republican in office again, and very hopeful at what President Trump is going to be able to do,” Erbrick said. “I’m hoping to see the regulation on businesses, (implementation of) the infrastructure projects, and would love to start seeing some money from Washington work its way down into the cities and communities that will actually benefit from those projects. I wish the best for President Trump and his family for the next four years.”

Councilmember Richard Leon was invited to travel to D.C. with the Brunson Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit organization, based in Lee County that provides academic scholarships for financially disadvantaged scholars, to witness the inauguration firsthand.

“There are about 75 to 100 people on the bus going up to D.C., and we’re all very excited – I’m honored to have been asked to join the foundation during this trip,” Leon said Thursday during a pit stop in 40-degree Virginia.

Leon’s never yet been to D.C. and looks forward to touring the historic town.

“We’re going to see the sights today, then get up very early tomorrow to find the best spot we can before the inauguration.”

Leon says he’s very hopeful Trump will follow through with his promises stated along the pre-election campaign trail, and “I hope to see a reversal of a lot of the Obama policies – seeing we’re more concentrated on America and our own infrastructure, as opposed to that of the rest of the world. Cleaning up all the red tape that’s in place in Washington.”

Many local gatherings and celebrations will commence today, as well as watch parties at some of the local Republican clubs.
