Newlan to host ‘Chief’s Town Hall Meeting’ Thursday at German American Social Club

The Cape Coral Police Department will share its plans for 2017 at a community event this week.

Residents are invited to attend the first “Chief’s Town Hall Meeting” of the new year on Thurs-day from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the German American Social Club of Cape Coral. The public is encouraged to attend.

Police Chief Dave Newlan will discuss the state of the department and its vision for 2017.

“A little bit of the things we achieved last year,” Lt. Dana Coston, spokesman for the CCPD, said.

He cited the police body camera program as one possible talking point.

“And things we hope to achieve in the coming year,” Coston said.

The last Chief’s Town Hall Meeting focused on fraud and economic crimes.

“This is more of an informational meeting,” he said.

“This is going to be a little more of a roundtable discussion,” Coston added. “A lot of it will be driven by the questions that we get from the audience.”

Typically, anywhere from 10 to 30 people attend the meetings.

“That’s kind of what we’re shooting for,” he said.

“We’re hoping we get a lot of people engaging with us online, as well,” Coston added.

On Thursday, members of the CCPD’s command staff will also be on hand to discuss crime and public safety trends that they are seeing in each area of the agency. Meeting attendees can learn who’s who.

“It gives people a little bit of insight into the makeup of the department,” he said.

The meeting will wrap up with a question-and-answer session.

Residents unable to attend can watch the event via Facebook Live and possibly Periscope.

“They’ll be able to participate virtually,” Coston said.

“People can actually ask questions,” he added.

“It’s kind of an open format this time around,” Coston said.
