A Cape Coral teen is facing a felony charge after a hit-and-run accident this past weekend.

The Florida Highway Patrol stated that Tristan Gendron, 17, was arrested and charged Thursday with leaving the scene of a crash with injury, a third-degree felony. He was booked into the Lee County Jail.

On Saturday, Kenneth John Roberts, 46, also of the Cape, was driving a moped eastbound over the Midpoint Bridge in the outside lane. At 6:15 a.m., Roberts was rear-ended by a white vehicle, possibly a Dodge Intrepid or Nissan Maxima, according to officials. The vehicle fled the scene of the crash.

Roberts sustained minor injuries and was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital.

Hospital officials reported that he was treated and later released.

On Thursday, the FHP located the hit-and-run vehicle at a body repair shop in Sarasota. According to officials, the assigned license tag of Roberts’ moped was discovered in the front grill of the vehicle.

The vehicle was impounded and a continued investigation led to Tristan.

According to its website, Tristan is a funeral director assistant at Gendron Funeral & Cremation Services. It states that he is the third generation of funeral service professionals in the family. Enrolled at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Tristan plays football for the Cape Coral Storms.

Funeral director Mike Gendron, his father, declined to comment on the charge today.

The FHP reported that the accident is not alcohol or drug related.
