Art Fair: Cape Coral Art League’s annual show and sale this weekend
An annual art show set for this weekend will showcase the work of dozens of local artists.
Hosted by the Cape Coral Art League, the 7th Annual Art Fair will be held Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 516 Cultural Park Blvd. The event will feature 55 artists and a range of media.
“Everybody in the show is a member of the art league,” Carmen Sprague, CCAL vice president, said. “This is something we give back to our members to let them showcase whatever their medium is.”
“It’s mainly to focus on and showcase our artisans,” she added.
Three rooms will be set up indoors, with about a dozen tents outside.
“Some will be food, some will be artisans and some local agencies,” Sprague said.
Last year, approximately 2,500 people attended the fair.
“We had perfect weather,” she said.
Organizers are anticipating a big crowd this year.
“I think we’re going to have a lot of pop-in traffic,” Sprague said.
While it is not a juried show, the event offers a wide variety of art forms and media.
“We have watercolor, we have acrylic,” she said. “We have multi-media.”
There will be potters, jewelers, photographers and more.
“We have a horticulturist, then we do have some three-dimensional people,” Sprague said.
“But, most people here are fine artists,” she added.
Organizers noted that booth rentals are reasonable and the CCAL does not charge commission.
“Each artisan prices their own art,” Sprague said, noting that the pieces range in pricing. “We try to keep it in the demographics of what Cape Coral is, but it’s really up to the artist.”
During the fair, art demonstrations will take place for visitors.
“We’re going to have demonstrations and things to do with the kids outside,” she said. “Inside, we usually have a watercolorist or an acrylicist.”
Sprague noted that many of the artisans will make pieces at their booths, as well.
Attendees will have a chance to win three pieces of artwork.
“Those are original pieces of artwork donated by our workshop teachers,” she said, adding that one piece has an estimated value of about $1,700. “Most of them are nationally-known artisans.”
The raffle tickets are $1 for one, $2 for three or $5 for seven.
The drawings will take place on Sunday.
“They do not have to be present to win,” Sprague said.
The CCAL will host two fundraisers for its organization during the event. Each member donates artwork that is framed, then sold outside at a mini-booth to help cover the CCAL’s expenses.
“Those are all original pieces of art,” she said. “Those are all $10.”
The league will also host a bake sale, with the goodies made and donated by members.
Sprague noted that there will be gluten-free items, items with no nuts and more.
“We’re trying to incorporate everybody’s needs in that,” she said.
Popcorn and homemade lemonade will also be for sale.
There is no admission to attend the fair, and parking is free.
Organizers encouraged the public to stop by.
“There’s something for every price point, there’s something for everybody’s thoughts and needs,” Sprague said.
The Cape Coral Art League is a non-profit organization. It offers year-round classes for adults and youth, art exhibits each year, workshops with world-renowned artists and scholarship programs.
