Cape motorcyclist remains hospitalized following weekend crash on Cape Coral Bridge
A Cape Coral motorcyclist remained hospitalized Tuesday following a weekend accident.
George Whittaker, 25, was listed in fair condition at Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was transported on Saturday following the crash on the Cape Coral Parkway Bridge, according to officials.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that Whittaker was driving a Yamaha R6 west across the bridge in the inside lane. At about 10:36 p.m., he began to approach a Toyota Scion also traveling in the same lane west over the bridge. Whittaker then attempted to change lanes to the outside lane to overtake the Toyota.
As the motorcycle was changing lanes, the side of it collided into the rear corner of the vehicle. The motorcycle overturned several times and came to a final rest in the outside lane, according to the FHP.
Whittaker sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.
The driver of the Toyota, Joseph Rasch, 67, also of Cape Coral, was not injured in the accident.
The FHP reported that Whittaker was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Alcohol was not a factor.
Whittaker was cited for reckless driving.
