Cape Coral man accused of using counterfeit credit cards to steal fuel

A Cape Coral man is facing multiple charges after state investigators say he stole fuel using counterfeit credit cards.

The Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement arrested Emmanuel Leyva Fernandez, 32, for filling a “bladder truck” with fuel illegally purchased with counterfeit cards, officials said in a statement issued Tuesday.

A “bladder truck” is a vehicle that has been retrofitted with hidden tanks that hold high volumes of fuel.

“Investigators observed Fernandez filling the ‘bladder truck’ at a North Fort Myers gas station with counterfeit credit cards,” the release states. “Investigators recovered a total of 27 counterfeit credit cards from Fernandez’s possession.”

Fernandez was booked in the Lee County Jail on the following charges:

One count of unlawful conveyance of fuel, a third degree felony;

One count of fraudulently obtaining fuel, a second degree felony;

One count of credit card counterfeiting, a third degree felony; and

One count of possession of more than 15 but less than 49 counterfeit credit cards, a second degree felony.
